The main goal of WP2 is to provide a common definition of green hydrogen which can be applied to all stakeholders (market players and regulators) in the EU. In order to achieve this objective, the Consortium will first analyse in detail the overall European legal and regulatory framework in this field. An extended life-cycle analyse will be implemented to evaluate environmental aspects and identify methods to assess the “greenness” of hydrogen produced. The analysis will first investigate different feedstocks and their use for different production processes (of hydrogen), including the identification of residues and by-products. In a next step, the environmental impact for each of the identified processes will be evaluated.
The methodology includes a survey to be launched among affiliated partners on the criteria needed to define green hydrogen that will lead to the definition of a limited amount of options. A second survey will be carried out among all stakeholders on the best option of green hydrogen.
